E85 offers drivers a lower-cost alternative:
- $1.50 to $2.00 less per gallon than gasoline

E85 Reduces Greenhouse Emissions
Expanding access to E85 would help California reduce its reliance on petroleum, lower transportation emissions and move closer to its climate and carbon-neutrality goals.
Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom is expanding access to lower-cost fuel options
Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom authored AB 2046, the Access to Affordable Fuel Act, to give more Californians access to lower-cost, cleaner fuel options.
California is currently the only state that does not allow federally approved E85 conversion kits. These kits allow eligible gasoline-powered vehicles to run on E85, gasoline or a blend of both.
AB 2046 would allow these proven conversion kits to be used in California, giving drivers:
- More choice at the pump
- Greater access to lower-cost E85
- A practical way to reduce fuel costs and emissions
AB 2046 has also been named a priority bill of the California Legislative Problem Solvers Caucus, reflecting bipartisan support for practical solutions that improve affordability for Californians.
