Stockton, CA –Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom’s District Office has helped local residents recover more than $600,000 through free casework services.
With the cost of living rising faster than wages and San Joaquin County’s unemployment rate consistently above the state average, Asm. Rhodesia Ransom puts money back in her constituents’ pockets. The funds were recovered by cutting red tape with agencies like the Employment Development Department (EDD), the Department of Housing, and others. Many residents had been waiting months, sometimes years, for these funds.
“When people reach out to my office, they’re often at one of the hardest points in their life,” said Assemblymember Ransom, “My office steps in, and advocates for the benefits they’ve earned because no family should be left waiting while bills pile up.”
One Stockton mother, Dominique, shared how the Assemblymember’s office helped her get long-delayed maternity leave benefits after struggling for months:
“My experience was amazing. I had fallen behind on my bills, but within 24 hours of reaching out, the Assemblymember’s office contacted EDD and soon after, I received my EDD back payment. It made all the difference for my family”

District 13, which includes Stockton, Tracy, Mountain House and French Camp, faces some of California’s toughest affordability challenges. One in three local households earns under $50,000 a year, and housing costs in San Joaquin County have risen faster than wages as more families relocate inland from the Bay Area. With unemployment at 5.5 percent, residents are feeling the pressure of rising rents, higher utility costs, and limited job growth.
Assemblymember Ransom’s team continues to help residents navigate state agencies, recover benefits, and restore hope during difficult times. This service is free and available to anyone in the district.
Advocating to Lower the Cost of Living
In Sacramento, Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom is leading and supporting efforts to make life more affordable for Californians. Her bill, AB 1414, Internet Affordability for All, was included in the Governor’s Housing Affordability Package. This bill stops landlords from locking tenants into expensive internet contracts, ensuring that families have the freedom to choose the provider that works best for their household and budget.
Assemblymember Ransom also supported several recent laws signed by the Governor that aim to put more money back into the pockets of Californians. These measures include $60 billion in electricity bill refunds, stronger protections for renters, bans on hidden fees that increase costs, and expanded consumer safeguards for families and small businesses.
