Sacramento, CA – Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom joined Speaker of the Assembly, Robert Rivas, and Senate President pro Tempore, Monique Limón, and her colleagues today in solidarity with communities across the country following recent fatal shootings and deaths tied to federal immigration enforcement operations. Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom warned that aggressive ICE enforcement across California and the nation have led to unnecessary loss of life, endangered children, and raised serious constitutional concerns
“Our Constitution is unraveling before our eyes. People’s RIGHTS continue to be at risk, and now their LIVES are also at risk, because these ICE operations are no longer about immigration. They are about intimidation and abuse of power.”

In 2025 alone, at least 32 people have died in ICE custody or during enforcement operations, the highest number in decades. Additional deaths have already occurred in January this year, including fatalities linked to reckless ICE raids. Advocates and community leaders have raised concerns about the lack of planning, transparency, and coordination with state and local officials during these operations.
Lack of Accountability
Assemblymember Ransom criticized the federal administration for deporting innocent people and issuing premature public statements that place blame on victims before thorough investigations are completed.
"That is what happens when there is no plan, only a goal, and when the President and the Secretary of Homeland Security prematurely issue public statements casting blame on the victims without a thorough investigation”

Stop Funding Deadly Operations
Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom also points to federal funding decisions that have significantly expanded ICE’s budget while cutting essential social programs, calling the enforcement strategy reckless and dangerous.
“This is not accountability in government, it is not a responsible use of taxpayer dollars. Congress must stop funding a reckless and deadly operation. It is up to each of us to speak out against injustice, protect our constitutional rights, and hold our government accountable when it fails to uphold those freedoms.”
