Stockton, CA- This weekend, Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom welcomed the cohort of her Young Legislators Program, a new leadership and civic engagement program designed to help high school juniors and seniors across Assembly District 13 understand how government works and learn how to use their voices to make positive change in their communities.
The inaugural class, made up of students from Stockton, Tracy, and Mountain House, gathered for their first session at California State University, Stanislaus, Stockton Campus. The six-month program offers students a hands-on opportunity to learn how youth can play an active role in shaping the future.
“I started this program because I want our young people to feel empowered and prepared to lead. Through the Young Legislators Program, we are showing students that their voices matter and how they can actively engage in government. These students are the future leaders of Assembly District 13, and I am excited to see them grow throughout this experience.”

The program kicked off with a Welcome to Government session, where students learned how the three branches of government work and how laws are made, giving them a foundation for how they can be civically engaged in their communities.
Over 60 students applied for the opportunity, and 22 were selected to participate in the program’s inaugural class.
